Welcome to The National Institute of The Korean Language.
I greatly appreciate your visit to the Digital Hangeul (Korean) Museum.
The Digital Hangeul Museum (DHM) is being established to broadly spread Hangeul, the Koreans' pride as well as a world cultural heritage.

Although Hangeul and its culture is the most important heritage that identifies Korean people there have been many barriers to make Hangeul known domestically and overseas because most of Hangeul data was separately retained in many museums, research institutes and individuals. Thus urgent requirements are arising to make a system that integrate and centralize Hangeul and its data.

To meet these current requirements that digitalize and preserve Hangeul and its cultural properties for a long time and provide professional discussion on its merit for worldwide public information, the Digital Hangeul Museum is being established as a five-year project of 2001 to 2005.

In accordance with the purpose of establishment of Digital Hangeul Museum, cultural heritage of Hangeul retained in different institutes and individuals is being collected, classified and converted into contents database for worldwide pervasion. Especially Digital Hangeul Museum is being categorized into 'History,' 'Formative Art,' 'Scholastic Information,' 'Education and Literature,' 'Future,' and 'Hangeul Life' sections of Hangeul data.

The establishment of Digital Hangeul Museum makes it possible to perform systemic categorization of Hangeul history and its cultural heritage, and further we can prevent confusion of national language life and consolidate desirable language model based on the establishment. In addition, it can serve foreigners who want to learn Korean as an education tool.

We, The National Institute of The Korean Language will continue to make every effort to improve Digital Hangeul Museum. We are also looking forward to your affectionate attention to our Digital Hangeul Museum.

Thank you for visiting the Digital Hangeul Museum.
