Establishment Purpose title
Ever since King Sejong the Great invented Hangeul, its relevant data has been collected, but the exact status on the data scattered worldwide has not been truly determined. Even though Hangeul (also called Hunminjeongeum) is a world cultural heritage we are proud of, there is no specialized museum that properly makes Hangeul known around the world. To achieve systemic and comprehensive management of the data relevant to Hangeul there should be a traditional Hangeul Museum that has physical space. Considering, however, the difficulty of acquiring suitable estate and budgeting for its establishment and operation we are planning the "Digital Hangeul Museum" that has an effect similar to the real world museum, but at a lower cost. Its objectives are as follows:

First, all cultural data relevant to Hangeul is collected according to the historical progress since its invention, and digitized and displayed to fit into a digital museum in order to preserve its fading cultural heritage.

Second, on-line web service is provided for not only Koreans, but also any foreigner who is interested in Hangeul, Korean language, and, furthermore, Korea itself, so that they can access it easily and usefully and naturally interact with the cultural heritage of Hangeul.

Third, Korean people can be proud of having the cultural heritage of Hangeul known world-wide.

Lastly, continuous understanding of Hangeul and its culture is encouraged and the Hangeul cultural community is provided for Hangeul information community activation in the future.
